What to See in Yerevan

Yerevan is a modern city located in the middle of the Transcauscasus region and Armenia. Although it is considered one of the oldest cities in the world, you hardly can see any evidence showing the age of the city. One of the historic sites currently linking the modern-day Yerevan with its long history is the ancient Urartian castle of Erebuni, the excavations on the Red Hill and a remnant of wall of the former Yerevan Castle. There are also some churches that date back to the middle ages. Here you can read some info about Yerevan's History. Presently Yerevan is a well developed city with strong infrastructures, tall buildings and modern urban planning. The city is full of all kinds of restaurants and bars, nightclubs and clubs, cultural establishments, parks, open air cafes. Restaurants are offering both Armenian and European, Asian and American cuisines. It is thought that because of the quality of water and the air, the Armenian products are very tasty, so a European dish may taste quite unusual if done with the local products. Yerevan is rich with museums, some of them renowned for their unique collections (like Matenadaran, the depository of ancient manuscripts), galleries. Recently a new site has become a must-see place in Yerevan: the Cascade. The Cascade was the idea of the main architect of current Yerevan Mr. Alexander Tamanyan. The construction was started even during the soviet times, then stopped a while because of the war, and now, after the completion recently, it has become home to modern arts thanks to the Gafesjian Family's investments. From the top of the Cascade an amazing view opens to the city and the magnificent mount Ararat. Beside the Cascade, to the right side of it, on a hill you can see the tall tower and the complex of the Genocide Memorial and the Sports-concert complex, called Hamalir by the locals. They are surrounded by green parks where a lot of seats are installed where happy couples are seating in the evenings. Both complexes are unique architectural ideas and give you the view of soviet times fine architecture.

All these places are part of Yerevan city-tours organized by VisitArm.com Armenia Hotels and Tours Center.
